Gout

The last 15 years or so I have suffered daily, weekly or more with excruciating pain, first in my toes, then my fingers, knees and elbows, certain times with hospital treatment the only solution. now with tophi on my elbow a cure is needed.

After unknown visits to clinics, hospitals and specialist doctors, I am no better than the start. Only 2 things have ever given me relief from this pain -

1) Acupuncture, felt pain relief the next day and gout subsided a long time, but its expensive and frequent.

2)Dried  Bael fruit and roselle tea, this natural drink you can mix and make yourself I still drink it often and it seems to keep the gout at bay.

colchicine Taken daily only gives me a bad stomach and can take a week to lower uric acid and the gout.

Cataflam anti inflammatory seems to ease swelling in the joints, not much else seems to work.

DIET

stopping chicken, red meats etc has had limited effects on gout, even eaten vegetarian foods for long periods has not stopped gout attacks, even the lowest purine diet has not stopped attacks or pain.

Even I drink large amounts of water and juice, tea, no fizzy drinks or soda, gout still occurs.

even the cider apple vinegar seemed to have little or no effect.

Anyone else got any ideas on this? I am sure there is a natural, cheap solution to gout?

Tried sodium bicarbonate, took the tophi down but all my joints that had gout flared up, red, hot and swollen in terrible pain for 2 weeks could not walk, now just taking 1/2 teaspoon every night, trying a alkaline diet, seems low purine does not work, keep the blood alkaline and should reduce the acid in the blood lots of salads and vegetables no bread or pasta.

Update April 2011

over a month now can eat some chicken and beef, found keeping salt and sugar to a minimum has helped, not needed any medication for a month now, just a bit of stiffness in feet in morning but weather has been cold. lots of salad and vegetables, seem the low purine diet is a no go for me. only down side is more weight loss, more exercise needed.
